How Good is Walmart Color Place Paint?

Walmart's color place paint

Walmart Inc. is an American multinational retail corporation operating a chain of hypermarkets, discount department stores, and grocery stores.

When it comes to their paint section, ColorPlace® is their exclusive paint brand. Its a premium quality Walmart paint, especially for the price. The colors of ColorPlace are designed to be very rich and vibrant, so they will really stand out in your home if you choose to buy one.

I bought ColorPlace ULTRA Interior Paint & Primer In One for my living room a couple of months back, and the paint was super smooth. It covered the wall surfaces very well and went evenly all over.

Besides ColorPlace ULTRA, they have a large variety of other paints like ColorPlace Classic Exterior Paint, ColorPlace Ready to Use Interior Paint, and even Walmart’s ColorPlace Gloss Spray Paint. For a complete range of ColorPlace products they have in their inventory, you can check here.

Who Manufactures Colorplace Paint for Walmart?

Since Walmart is a retail store and not a paint manufacturer, you may think that Walmart paints are just rebranded and sold under the ColorPlace name.

Some may even be skeptical and think that Walmart just buys the leftover paint from other manufacturers and sells them at a discounted price. However, this is not the case for ColorPlace.

Walmart’s ColorPlace paint is currently manufactured by Akzo Nobel.

According to Wikipedia, Akzo Nobel N.V., stylized as AkzoNobel, is a Dutch multinational company that creates interior and exterior paints and performance coatings for both industry and consumers worldwide.

So, there’s no point you can’t trust the ColorPlace paint just because it’s sold in Walmart.

Is Walmart’s Color Place Paint Really That Good Quality?

Well, if you compare premium brands like Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore, Behr, or even Valspar, then you might not be as impressed with ColorPlace.

But if you’re looking for a mid-priced paint product that’s still of decent quality, then ColorPlace should be one of your top choices.

Of course, there will always be some complaints here and there about any product. But based on my own experiences and the reviews I’ve read online, I would say that ColorPlace is a good paint to buy if you’re on a budget.

In fact, I would say that it’s actually a good idea to buy your favorite budget paints from Walmart (like base whites) since they’re cheaper than most other places.

Plus, you can always return the paint to Walmart if you’re not happy with it, which is something that you can’t do with other paint brands very easily.

What did consumers complain about the Color Place paint?

Well, for me, the Color Place Ultra paint was overall good, and I was satisfied with its performance for the price I paid. The paint was also fast drying and had a low odor.

But there are customers I have seen online complaining about the product in their reviews. Most negative reviews are related to the following:

  • Paint being over diluted
  • It’s not as tough or durable as expected
  • Paint taking too long to dry
  • Ended up with messy and uneven coats
  • Colors fade quickly on exterior surfaces
  • Poor customer service from Walmart

Different Types and Colors Available in Color Place Paint

As part of Walmart’s exclusive paint brand offer, ColorPlace® can be bought in both sprays and in canned varieties that can be pre-mixed.

In fact, if you are looking for low VOC products, you can go for their range of latex and acrylic-based interior and exterior paints that are easy to apply, mildew resistant, and scrubbable.

A few excellent ColorPlace options you can choose from include:

  • ColorPlace Interior Flat White 5G
  • ColorPlace Exterior Latex House Paint, White, Satin
  • ColorPlace Ready to Use Interior Paint, Antique White, Flat
  • ColorPlace Ultra Exterior Paint & Primer, Semi-Gloss, Medium Base
  • ColorPlace Gloss Spray Paint White or Glossy Fire Red

These fast-drying paints not only offer excellent coverage but are also affordably priced.

Depending on the type of product you pick, you can use it on your living rooms, bedrooms, family rooms, kids’ rooms, hallways, wood trims, drywall, plaster, masonry, fences, sheds, vinyl & aluminum siding, stucco, galvanized metal, and primed steel.

ColorPlace by Walmart also has a decent range of colors to choose from for both their exterior and interior paint lines. Check their sample charts and I am sure you will be impressed. Besides the common white, black and gray, you can get them in shades like blue, green, yellow, brown, pink, red, orange, and purple.

ColorPlace also has a range of paint sheens (flat, eggshell, satin, and semi-gloss) in white that can be used on textured walls or ceilings to achieve a professional-looking finish.

So, instead of opting for pricier name-brand paints, you can try Walmart’s Color Place line starting at only $0.10 per gallon.

Since you can find it in a variety of sizes, I am sure you will get what you need according to your exact project requirements.

What are the Other Common Paint Brands Available at Walmart?

In case you are not convinced about ColorPlace, there are a few other common paint brands available at Walmart that you can check out. Some of these are:

  • Kilz
  • Glidden
  • Krylon
  • Valspar
  • Rust-Oleum
  • Better Homes & Gardens Paint
  • Drew Barrymore Flower Home

When buying, just make sure to do your research first, so you know what you’re getting into and what to expect from it. Also, don’t forget to pick up some painter’s tape, drop cloths, and other supplies from Walmart to make your painting job go smoothly.

But overall, if you’re thinking about painting your home soon and are on a budget, Walmart’s ColorPlace paint line can be a great choice. Although it does not look and feel premium, it still does a good job at a fraction of the price.
