What is Loxon XP – What it is Used For?

loxon xp uses and benefits

Loxon XP is a type of Waterproofing Coating made by Sherwin Williams, which you know as one of the leading paint companies in the United States.

Simply said, Loxon XP Waterproofing Coatings are recognized for their exceptional waterproofing, flexibility, durability, and resistance to alkali and efflorescence.

When it comes to the concrete and masonry coatings Sherwin-Williams Loxon XP is a finish to match every job and budget. It offers a solution for both indoor and outdoor surfaces such as sidewalks, driveways, patios, decks, walls, and more where you need extra traction.

Loxon XP Benefits & Uses

Loxon XP is a high-build waterproofing formula that needs no primer or conditioner. Unlike most other typical masonry coating products, it can cover the exterior surfaces (including the imperfect ones) evenly in just a single coat.

However, to get a better long last finish, I recommend recoating the surface again, once the first coat is dried which generally takes 24-48 hours.

The Loxon XP formulas are designed in such a way that while sealing the exterior walls it allows more water vapor to pass through in less time, making it quite a breathable high-performance coating for your masonry surfaces including tilt-up, precast, pour-in-place concrete, CMU, cement block, and stucco.

Loxon XP sealers also come with high elastomeric flexibility to resist all kinds of weather conditions, especially water intrusion; provided you have followed all the instructions provided by the Sherwin Williams company, during its application.

And that’s the reason you can also use it for filling existing stucco cracks and to prevent future cracks from showing.

Some of the key features of the product include:

  • Requires no primer
  • Mold & mildew resistant
  • Alkali & efflorescence resistant
  • Protection from wind-driven rain
  • Can be applied to a 7-day-old fresh concrete/masonry surfaces
  • Comes with water vapor permeability and crack-bridging properties

Loxon XP Waterproofing Coatings also comes with excellent coverage of around 80 square feet per gallon.

However, it will be dependent on the type of surface (its porousness or roughness), the number and thickness of the coat, and the weather conditions.

With all that being said, one thing to keep in mind is that Loxon XP is NOT an ideal solution for basement waterproofing. Especially if the areas are prone to water seepage due to plumbing, flooding, or any other natural factors.

For waterproofing exterior brick walls, Sherwin-Williams Loxon XP Masonry Coating does a great job which is unmatchable.

Loxon XP vs. Conflex XL

Loxon XP vs. Conflex XL – Is There a Difference?

Sherwin-Williams ConFlex XL™ is another brand category that’s available in smooth and textured finishes.

Unlike Loxon XP, ConFlex XL™ offers their customers to pick from more economical finishes such as sleek, easy-to-clean finish, or texture that is basically meant to hide minor imperfections.

Sherwin-Williams’ extensive line of concrete and masonry coatings from Loxon® XP includes a variety of different sealers and specialty coatings which include:

  • Loxon® 40% Silane
  • Loxon® 7% Siloxane
  • Loxon® Vertical Concrete Stain
  • Loxon® Block Surfacer
  • Loxon® XP IR Reflective Coating
  • And a few others.

ConFlex XL™ range of products is also available in varieties that include Block Filler, Smooth High Build Acrylic Coating, Textured High Build Acrylic Coating, Sherlastic Elastomeric Coating, Siloxane Water Repellant, and others.

What to Look for When Choosing Concrete & Masonry Waterproofing Formula?

When choosing a waterproofing coating for your concrete and masonry surfaces, always look for one that is breathable.

It should also be alkali-resistant, efflorescence-resistant, and mildew-resistant. And it should come with a long-lasting guarantee so that you can be sure of its quality and performance.

Before picking, make sure that the product is easy to apply with a brush or roller and doesn’t require any complex tools or machinery.

IMO, Loxon XP meets all the criteria mentioned above, making it one of the best waterproofing coatings available on the market.

The Bottom Line

Loxon XP and ConFlex XL are both elastomeric lines of products that offer great protection for concrete and masonry surfaces and are formulated to comply with strict VOC regulations.

No matter what product you choose, I am sure you won’t be disappointed. Just make sure you apply two coats for the best results. And always follow the instructions provided by Sherwin-Williams to get the job done perfectly.
